Erickson Etchings
Erickson has a treasure trove of etchings of some of his most beloved paintings. This is a printmaking technique where an image is created on a metal plate. He first coats the plate with a special protective layer, then uses a needle or other tools to scratch the design into the protective layer, exposing the metal underneath.
Next, the plate is immersed in an acid bath, which "etches" or eats away the exposed metal areas, leaving behind the lines and grooves made by the artist.
After the etching process, the plate is inked, with the ink settling into the etched lines. The plate is then pressed onto paper, transferring the inked design onto the paper, creating the final etching print.
